Description
- Minnesota Orchestra
- Mark Wigglesworth, conductor
- Leila Josefowicz, violin
| MOZART | Symphony No. 1 | 11' |
| STRAVINSKY | Violin Concerto | 22' |
| SHOSTAKOVICH | Symphony No. 10 | 46' |
We start with a Mozart surprise: the composer's sun-filled Symphony No. 1, a rarity on American programs, written when the wunderkind was only eight. British conductor Mark Wigglesworth is famous for showcasing revelations like this—and for the arresting interpretations we'll hear in two additional works. First comes Stravinsky's cheeky, adventurous Violin Concerto, played by superstar Leila Josefowicz; the concert ends powerfully with the Tenth Symphony of Shostakovich, his triumphant statement of survival during the Stalin regime.
