Music Up Close

Music Up Close offers audiences a variety of ways to explore classical music before and after the concert performances. From pre-concert discussions led by musicians and composers to post-concert question-and-answer sessions with music director Osmo Vänskä, each program offers a unique and informative compliment to that evening’s performance. Details for each Music Up Close session are provided with individual online concert listings.
Concert Previews:
Join us for entertaining and informative concert previews before most Classical concerts. You’ll have opportunities to meet a musician, chat with a composer and learn about the concert program. Concert previews begin 30 minutes prior to Thursday morning coffee concerts and 60 minutes prior to evening and Sunday matinee concerts.
Share the Stage Performances:
Arrive early for entertainment prior to select Classical concerts, featuring performances by local music ensembles on the stage of Orchestra Hall. Pre-concert performances begin 90 minutes prior to applicable morning, evening and matinee concerts.
Post-Concert Q&As:
Stay late after most Saturday evening Classical concerts for our post-concert Q&As, and ask Music Director Osmo Vänskä or our guest conductor about the music performed on that evening’s program or their career in music.
All Music Up Close events are free, but a concert ticket is required for entry. Seating is available anywhere on the main floor of Orchestra Hall.
