Endowment

What is an endowment?
Most charitable organizations of significant size have an endowment. An endowment is a fund comprised of charitable gifts where the principal of each gift is kept in tact. The endowment is invested and the interest gained from that investment generates a stream of income for the charity in perpetuity. Endowment gifts made today continue to make an impact for many, many generations to come.

The Minnesota Orchestra’s Endowment
The Minnesota Orchestra’s endowment was established more than 50 years ago and has grown to more than $90 million. The endowment’s investment performance, asset allocation and market conditions are closely managed by the Investment Committee of the Board of Directors. Each year, the Orchestra draws on a small portion (usually 6%) of the income earned from its endowment investments to support its mission, artistic initiatives and vision for the future. This income enables the Orchestra to;

  • Recruit, hire and retain the highest quality musicians.
  • Engage soloists and guest artists of the highest caliber.
  • Encourage innovation in artistic programming, education and community outreach.

Endow Your Annual Gift
Do you currently make an annual contribution to the Minnesota Orchestra and wish to continue your support even after your lifetime? You can by endowing your annual support. Simply multiply your current annual gift by 20, leave a bequest in that amount to the Minnesota Orchestra and designate your bequest to the Orchestra’s endowment. Your gift will provide an annual distribution that is approximately the same dollar value you are giving now. Because the principal of your contribution will remain invested and untouched, your annual support of the Minnesota Orchestra will continue in perpetuity.

Ways to Give
You can support the Minnesota Orchestra’s endowment with an outright gift or a multi-year pledge. Outright gifts and pledges can be paid with cash, stock and securities, or in the future with a planned gift . Several naming opportunities for endowed gifts are available.
