Making Sense of Jazz
TUE MAR 9 6PM
Orchestra Hall – Onstage
Complimentary for Crescendo Project Members*
In addition to its classical concerts, The Minnesota Orchestra offers numerous concerts in genres ranging from rock, jazz and Big Band to Latin, country and world music. In 2008, the Orchestra established Jazz at Orchestra Hall, a jazz series featuring top performers from around the nation, such as the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on March 14.
Mary Louise Knutson will be joining Crescendo Project members and presenting "Making Sense of Jazz." For non-musicians and/or budding enthusiasts, she explores how jazz musicians communicate on stage, the typical structure of songs, and the use of improvisation.
Formerly an instructor in jazz piano and improvisation at Carleton College, Knutson teaches privately and conducts a variety of master classes, including "Making Sense of Jazz".
