Alchemy of Acoustics
WED NOV 18, 2009 6PM-8PM
Onstage at Orchestra Hall, 1111 Nicollet Mall

What makes a violin sound like a violin rather than a cello, a piano or a trumpet? Why do some players have beautiful consistent tone at any volume while others do not? Is it all magic?
To learn the answers to these acoustical questions and more, join the Crescendo Project for Alchemy of Acoustics with guest presenter Stuart Anderson, Associate Professor of Physics at Augsburg and McNally Smith Colleges. Professor Anderson has taught the full range of undergraduate physics courses and has recently created a new course – Physics for the Fine Arts – that explores instruments, sound and music from a scientific perspective.
