Meet Charlie Chaplin!

Charlie Chaplin (ok, a costumed look-alike) will be mingling with guests in the lobby during the City Lights movie and music concerts January 17th at 11am and January 18th at 8pm. Say hello, have your photo taken and receive discounts on future Sounds of Cinema concerts!

Special Performances

Come early on the following concert dates and enjoy stellar performances by local student Orchestras in the main auditorium. Also, Pianist Tom Erickson will perform live to film shorts featuring Felix the Cat and Laurel and Hardy. Concert tickets are required to enter the hall, but no additional fees apply. Seating is permitted anywhere on the main floor.

Lobby Entertainment

Come a little early to your concert and enjoy live entertainment and refreshments in the Orchestra Hall lobby. At each concert, we’ll feature your favorite movie theater candies, fresh-popped popcorn, and the following performances:

  • Chaplin's City Lights: Jan 18  8pm
    Pianist Tom Erickson will perform live to film shorts featuring Felix the Cat and Laurel and Hardy in the lobby before the concert.
  • John Williams and Beyond: Jan 24  7:30pm & Jan  25  8pm
    Lobby entertainment provided by Café Accordion Orchestra before both concerts and during intermission.
  • The Battleship Potemkin: Jan 26  8pm
    Pianist Tom Erickson will also perform live to film shorts featuring Felix the Cat and Laurel and Hardy in the lobby before the concert.

Music Up Close

Music Up Close programs offer Minnesota Orchestra audiences a variety of informal and informative ways to explore the music before, during and after the concert performance. Concert tickets are required to enter the hall, but no additional fees apply. Seating is permitted anywhere on the main floor.

  • Hollywood’s Golden Era: Jan 19  8pm
    Come early for a pre-concert discussion at 7pm with film historian Bruce Crawford or stay late for a lively post-concert Q&A with Bruce and Osmo.
  • John Williams and Beyond: Jan 24th  7:30pm
    Come early for a pre-concert discussion at 6:30pm with film historian Bruce Crawford.
  • The Battleship Potemkin: Jan 26  8pm
    Come early for a pre-concert discussion at 7pm with film historian Bruce Crawford or stay late for a lively post-concert Q&A with Bruce and conductor Esa Heikkilä.
