NightCap: Persichetti and Dvořák

About this Concert:

A lovely 20th-century surprise and a favorite 19th-century Romantic classic comprise this NightCap.

PERSICHETTI
Serenade No. 10 for Flute and Harp

DVOŘÁK
Dumky for Piano, Violin and Cello

More Details:

  • $25 tickets, plus one complimentary beverage ($10 for patrons attending the 8pm performance).
  • The prolific composer Vincent Persichetti often made his daily commute through Philadelphia traffic with blank score paper taped to the steering wheel so he could sketch ideas at red lights.
  • Persichetti loved putting surprising combinations of instruments together, and one of his 15 Serenades is for cello, viola and trombone.
  • Persichetti’s Serenade No. 10 is a collection of eight tuneful little movements for harp and flute.
  • Dvořák’s Dumky Trio is shadow and light, inspired by the Ukrainian word “dumka,” a kind of lament. Six pieces make up this suite, each starting in a melancholy mood, then breaking into a lively contrasting dance.
