  • Giuseppe Verdi was Italy’s master of opera, his nation’s most famous citizen in the late 19th century.
  • Verdi had been retired for over a decade when his publisher launched a full-on charm offensive to get him to start writing again.
  • Verdi started writing Otello in 1884 and today it is one of his most-often-performed operas.

Please note: opera length is 2 hours and 30 minutes with one 20 minute intermission.
