In addition to its concert performances at the Teatro Nacional, the Orchestra will participate in several musical exchanges with Cuban music students. Minnesota Orchestra musicians will coach student groups and exchange performances at the Escuela Nacional de Musica, a national high school for music study, and at the Instituto Superior de Arte, a university that focuses on the arts. The Orchestra will also join the 80-member youth symphony, Orquesta Sinfonica Juvenil Amadeo Roldán, onstage at the Teatro Nacional for a two-hour side by side rehearsal, sharing stands, music and experiences.

The International Cubadisco Festival is an annual music festival that encompasses one of the most important recording competitions in the Cuban music industry. The theme for the 19th annual festival, running from May 15 to 24, is symphonic and choral music.

The Minnesota Orchestra tour is made possible by a generous gift from Marilyn C. and Glen D. Nelson.

Broadcast

Both of the Minnesota Orchestra performances in Cuba will be broadcast live locally by Minnesota Public Radio. Tune in at 7pm central time on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16 to KSJN 99.5 FM or classicalmpr.org to hear these historic broadcasts.
