Looking East: New York Looms Large
  • Ron Miles, trumpet
  • Chris Thomson, tenor saxophone
  • Jeremy Walker, piano
  • Jeff Brueske, bass
  • Tim Zhorne, drums

New York looms large in the sonic imagination of any jazz musician, and the players of the Atrium Jazz Ensemble (AJE) are no exception.

Join us and explore the world of Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and others who shared their hometown through music—arranged and composed by members of the AJE. The program will include fresh interpretations of Ellington/Strayhorn classics including Upper Manhattan Medical Group, Serenade to Sweden and Prelude to a Kiss, Gershwin classics How Long has this Been Going On and 'S Wonderful, as well as originals inspired by New York and its music. This incarnation of the AJE includes the return of acclaimed Colorado trumpeter and composer Ron Miles. Take it from The New York Times: “What’s always striking about his music is a sense of possibility that rings of the American frontier.”
