Symphony in 60: Sibelius’ Symphonies Nos. 6 & 7

SIBELIUS
Symphony No. 6
Symphony No. 7

The Minnesota Orchestra won its first-ever Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance with a Sibelius recording—and no wonder. Osmo Vänskä is the world’s preeminent expert in the work of his fellow Finn, and under his baton, the music is magically transformed. Vänskä and the Orchestra will complete their cycle of Sibelius symphonies in 2015, the year that marks the 150th anniversary of Sibelius' birth. In this concert, our orchestra performs Sibelius' two final symphonies: the mysterious Sixth and the one-movement Seventh, its C-major ending a triumphant culmination of the composer’s life’s work.
