Piano Legends: André Watts with Osmo Vänskä

NIELSEN
Pan and Syrinx

SIBELIUS
Symphony No. 3

BRAHMS
Piano Concerto No. 2

Our second week of piano greats features the wildly popular André Watts with Brahms’ grand and warm Piano Concerto No. 2. The composer called it “a tiny, tiny, pianoforte concerto with a tiny, tiny wisp of a scherzo.” It is anything but that. Osmo Vänskä brings his inimitable touch to a program that opens with Sibelius’ Symphony No. 3, soon to be recorded by the Orchestra as part of a multi-year exploration of the Finnish national hero’s masterpieces.

“My greatest satisfaction is performing… Performing is my way of being part of humanity—of sharing.”

— André Watts
