The Art of Russia: The Slavic Soul

NAZAYKINSKAYA
Winter Bells

MOZART
Piano Concerto No. 20

PROKOFIEV
Symphony No. 5

More from the romantic Russians! A star from our 2010 Composer Institute, Polina Nazaykinskaya, says her emotional Winter Bells comes "from the depth of my heart." Keyboard wonder Jonathan Biss brings out all the depth and operatic drama in this concerto from Mozart (surely its soulfulness makes him an honorary Russian). And the lush, characterful scoring in Prokofiev's Fifth Symphony (written in just one month) tells stories without words. Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu is on the podium for this stirring concert.
