Never was a story of more woe! Osmo Vänskä leads the Orchestra in three vastly different realizations of the world’s most famous love story, Romeo and Juliet. Tchaikovsky’s Fantasy-Overture — with the English horn ushering in that famous love theme — is lush and romantic, while Prokofiev’s rich and dark melodies portend the tragic fate of the star-crossed lovers. In Bernstein’s urban retelling, rival gangs rumble and mambo their way through a score that, in the end, leaves us hopeful that love endures, “Somewhere.”
