"Blur is an absolute blast to play, and a great way to start a season. Blur is club or EDM (Electronic Dance Music) written out for an orchestra. The percussion section is heavily featured on this piece. Very energetic and fun. It's short and followed by two masterpieces of the orchestral repertoire...and Joshua Bell!"
Brian Mount, a Minnesota Orchestra member since 1997, was named principal percussion in 1999. He had previously served as principal percussion of the Honolulu Symphony, a post he held for four years. He has performed with many additional major orchestras, including the Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Pittsburgh and San Antonio symphony orchestras and the Los Angeles and New York Philharmonic Orchestras.
Mount has been featured many times in the Orchestra’s Young People’s Concerts and Kinder Konzert series. He also plays guitar and sings with The M.O.B. (Minnesota Orchestra Band), a Minnesota Orchestra musician-based Rock and Roll cover band which debuted in Orchestra Hall’s Target Atrium in the 2015-16 season.
Mount graduated from Indiana University, studied further at the Tanglewood Music Festival and earned a master’s degree from Temple University in Philadelphia.
He lives in Plymouth with his wife Jill, a former music librarian with the Orchestra, and their two children, Dean and Leili.
