Mezzo soprano Victoria Vargas is delighted to return for her third season with the Minnesota Orchestra Sommerfest. She has sung with companies such as the Opera Theater of Saint Louis, Chautauqua Opera, Ash Lawn Highland Opera Festival, Lyric Opera of the North, Sarasota Opera and most notably with Minnesota Opera where she has performed over ten roles for the company with her most notable being the title role in Carmen. Other roles to date include Mrs. Lowe in the world premiere of Manchurian Candidate, Adelaide (Arabella), Natacha Rambova (The Dream of Valentino), Second and Third Lady (Magic Flute), Fenena (Nabucco), Smeton (Anna Bolena), Mrs Deakins in the world premiere of Doubt, Suzuki (Madame Butterfly), Alisa (Lucia di Lammermoor), Nelly (Wuthering Heights), Flora (La Traviata), Anna (Mary Stuarda), Tisbe (La Cenerentola) , Marcellina (Le Nozze di Figaro), Emilia (Otello) and numerous others.
On the concert stage Mrs. Vargas has sung with Minnesota Orchestra, Phoenix Symphony, South Dakota Symphony, Buffalo (NY) Philharmonic Orchestra, Wayzata Symphony, and Mankato Symphony. In 2017 she will make her debut singing Verdi Requiem for the La Jolla Symphony.
Mrs. Vargas have received recognition at the Metropolitan Opera Council auditions six times, placed second for the Schubert Club Competition, and was a finalist at the Irene Dallis Vocal Compeition.
In addition to her performing Mrs. Vargas also serves on faculty at the MacPhail Center for Music and Carleton College.
