Avivo ArtWorks Exhibit

Avivo ArtWorks

Over 10 artists from the Avivo ArtWorks Collective share their perspectives on mental illness and recovery through art in this exhibit curated for the Tchaikovsky Marathon by collective members Faye Buffington-Howell and Shining Starr.

Many of Tchaikovsky’s letters document his personal experience with what present-day psychiatrists believe was a depressive or bipolar disorder. This aspect of the composer’s life inspired the creation and presentation of Stages: One Step at a Time, which challenges mental health stigma and demonstrates that people living with mental illness can achieve success in art and life.
