The Minnesota Orchestra adds a second performance date for concerts with Minnesota rapper-vocalist-essayist Dessa
The Minnesota Orchestra announced today that it has added an additional concert with Minnesota-based rapper-vocalist-essayist Dessa, due to exceptional demand for the original performance scheduled for April 15, 2017. The added concert will occur at Orchestra Hall on Friday, April 14, 2017, at 8 p.m., and will be conducted by Sarah Hicks, the Orchestra’s principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall. Tickets, priced from $30 to $60, are available now at minnesotaorchestra.org and by phone at 612-371-5656. For further purchasing details, refer to the information section at the conclusion of this press release.
With tickets for the originally-scheduled concert nearly selling out five months in advance, Dessa and the Minnesota Orchestra are thrilled to add this second performance. “I’m excited that Dessa’s fans will have two opportunities to hear her perform with the Minnesota Orchestra,” said Grant Meachum, Director of Live at Orchestra Hall. “The artistic vision that she and Sarah Hicks have for these performances is singular and thrilling, and their work with the musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra is going to create two unforgettable evenings at Orchestra Hall.”
Dessa, the Twin Cities’ own multi-talented artist and member of indie hip-hop collective Doomtree, has been working closely with Minnesota Orchestra staff and musicians to prepare a program that crosses genres and boundaries, uniquely blending together some of this state’s strongest musical forces. “I could not possibly design a more supportive community of listeners than the one I’m lucky enough to have in my hometown,” says Dessa. “A sincere thank you to everyone who decided to snag a ticket, to the Minnesota Orchestra, and a special thanks to those people who are trekking in from other states to see the performance. I’m moved by the vote of confidence and determined to make good on it. This one should be epic.”
