Toronto native Megan Tam joined the Minnesota Orchestra in 2003, a year after winning the grand prize at the 2002 Coleman Chamber Music Competition with fellow members of the Linden Quartet. In recent seasons she has performed works of Schulhoff, Schubert and Duruflé on the Orchestra’s Chamber Music at MacPhail series. At Sommerfest 2008 she played Korngold’s Piano Quintet with Sommerfest Artistic Director Andrew Litton and Orchestra colleagues.

Tam studied violin and viola at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music. She completed undergraduate studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, studying under Robert Vernon and receiving the Robert Vernon Prize in Viola. During her undergraduate years in Cleveland, Tam was a substitute musician with the Cleveland Orchestra, performing on its 2002 East Coast tour and during its summer season at the Blossom Festival.

Tam is also a devoted chamber musician. In summer 2004 she was a guest performer with the Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society in Madison, Wisconsin, and she currently performs with chamber ensembles around the Twin Cities.
